On November 20, 2004, the Rockwall community welcomed Rogelio and Maria Rodriquez and their children Edith, Erika, Cristina, Rosalinda, and Rogelio, Jr. to their new home on Dickey Street. The House Dedication Ceremony was well attended, with new neighbors, community leaders, other Habitat partner families, and other supporters of Habitat on hand to greet the family and wish them well. The dedication ceremony that has become traditional for each new Habitat house began with prayer, then introduction of the family, presentation of the new family Bible, benediction and blessing of the home. The assembly was reminded of the Christian purpose of Habitat for Humanity with the recitation of the Litany for Shelter. And following the formal house blessings, everyone was invited inside for a tour of the new home and for wonderful tamales and other refreshments provided by the family. This was Rockwall Habitat's 18th new home dedication. The house is beside Habitat house #17 belonging to the Castillo family, who moved into their new home in July 2004. As much of the construction on both houses occurred at the same time, the families had already become great friends and contributed to the work on both their houses. The photo below shows Rogelio and Maria signing purchase and title documents on their new home. More photos of Habitat house #18 are on page 5.
