President's Message

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2005. As we do each year, we have re-organized our all volunteer board and have a good mix of new and experienced board members. We are beginning the construction process on a new house in Lake Rockwall Estates as I write this, and are in the process of selecting a family for this house. We have two additional lots in inventory on Sherman Street on which to build. So, we are in need of funds to purchase more lots, and build the current and future houses to fulfill our mission of providing "simple, decent" housing for those in need in the Rockwall area. If you share the vision we do, please give what you can.
We are also in the process of updating our volunteer database. So, if you are a former or future volunteer, or just have questions, let us know by emailing your contact information to
RockwallHabitat@Birch.net or by calling and leaving a message at our office at 972-771-6909. Please include your e-mail address if you have one.
Thank you for your continued support.
 Ed Schwaneke, President

World Savings Donation

Recently, the local World Savings office made another donation to Rockwall Habitat with a check for $6,500.00.  By supporting Habitat for Humanity, Manager Alicia Truesdale has demonstrated the company's desire to contribute to the improvement of its community through better housing for families in need.
The $6,500.00 will be used to buy needed materials for the upcoming house start in Lake Rockwall Estates.

Volunteers Are Never Too Young

A very special group of 11 and 12-year-old boys proved last fall that you are never too young to contribute.  This group of ten boys built a 6x6-foot playhouse, and in December they raised $1,525.00 for Rockwall Habitat by putting it up for auction.
The boys, including Jared Robertson, Tanner Glaess, Connor Grimm, Wesley Livingston, Collin Glaess, Jordan Johnson, Jake Robertson, Ethan Glaess, Spencer Moreau, and Chandler Moreau, were already accustomed to teamwork.  They are Destination Imagination, a critical thinking group associated with Home Educators Associational Resources (HEAR) of Rockwall County.   Lowe's Home Improvement provided the materials for the playhouse, and it was built in the area in front of Lowe's.
The funds will be used to help build another Habitat house in the Rockwall area.  Thanks, Destination Imagination and sponsors, for your resourcefulness and hard work, and to Lowe's for your generosity.
