2×4 Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Rockwall was a Success!

On Sunday, September 29th the First United Methodist Church of Rockwall held their 17th annual 2×4 Sunday fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity.   It was a huge success raising over $2,400 in donations from church goers.  Sponsored by the Seekers Sunday School class at the church there were 2x4s for people to sign and give prayers on to be put in the next Habitat house and baked goods available for donation.  The fundraiser was a huge success as the latest house was just completed and the next home will start in a few short months.

Volunteer Coordinator Help Needed

We are moving right along with our latest house, but we need your help! We have an amazing volunteer coordinator, but the job is bigger than just one person.  If you are interested in getting involved with Habitat, this would be a great way to get started with our great group of volunteers.  You wouldn’t be alone as a coordinator, but work together to make sure our volunteers get what they need.  If you are interested, please contact us via e-mail at rockwallhabitat@yahoo.com.

Next Build Started … 302 Ross St. Rockwall

Saturday, February 9th, We started our newest house at 302 Ross St. in Rockwall. Even with the cold and rain we had over a dozen volunteers come out and were able to raise 2 1/2 sides of framing on the house.  It was a very exciting day as this new home was started for a very deserving family.  Angel Lopez from Sonic was gracious enough to donate lunch for our volunteers and the Rockwall Fire Station on Rockwall Parkway was kind enough to bring by some ice.  It was a great day and we are excited about continuing with the framing this Saturday!

Newest House for Rockwall Habitat is Dedicated!

The Rockwall Chapter of Habitat for Humanity dedicated their latest house at 304 Ross St. on Saturday, October 27, 2012.  Saturday afternoon a large group of volunteers, board members and family members gathered as the president of Habitat, John Cote, led the dedication for the newest family, Jeffery & Meliza Davidson.  The Davidsons moved in this month with their children, including a new baby boy born in August.

During the dedication, Mary McClure, a former board member expressed sincere thanks to an anonymous donor that has donated significantly in the past as well as $25,000 specifically for this house.  Mayor, David Sweet, presented to the family a flag flown over the capital on behalf of Congressman Ralph Hall.
Habitat will begin their next house on the lot next door in the coming weeks.  Volunteers to aid in construction, provide breakfast, lunch or water are always needed.

We are Part of the Kroger Neighbor to Neighbor Program!

2×4 Sunday First United Methodist Church, Rockwall

This Sunday, September 9, from 8am – 12pm, First United Methodist Church of Rockwall will host its annual 2 x 4 Habitat fundraiser. Members and guests are invited to ‘buy’ a 2 x 4 plank of wood which they can then sign or they can simply contribute to Habitat as they come and go from church. Over the last 15 years, FUMC has raised over $52,000 for Habitat. We welcome you to stop by to buy your own 2 x 4! The boards are then used in the building of the next house. It’s a great experience to see all these boards with well wishes on them being nailed up to support and shelter another family.
