Habitat Heros
These men and women generously give of their time and talents to support Habitat's mission. We applaud their efforts!
Current Spotlight:
Vanessa Bovee: We would like to pay a special parting tribute to volunteer Vanessa Bovee. This sweet, dedicated young woman labored beside us for more than four years, helping to build five Habitat homes here in our local community. Vanessa initially got involved with RAHFH the summer of her first year in high school as a way to earn National Honor Society credit hours. She quickly met that goal and continued to contribute hundreds of volunteer hours as a permanent fixture onsite every Saturday. Vanessa would help in any way asked of her. She even recruited her parents and brother to join in the construction efforts!
But this fall, the time came for Vanessa to charter a new journey: continuing her education as a full time student at UT in Austin.
When Vanessa learned that we wanted to spotlight her efforts, she said, “First, I’d just like to say how much of an honor it is that RAHFH would choose to interview me! It really means a lot because I miss Habitat so much! I’m trying to get involved with Habitat here at UT. I was accepted into the McCombs School of Business. I want to major in International Business and hopefully get to use my French working overseas! I DO know I will stay active in Habitat. I personally think it’s the greatest organization and I’m really excited there is a chapter here in Austin. My favorite jobs were putting up the foundations, insulation, tiling the roof, sheet-rocking, painting, and laying sod! I guess I pretty much loved it all! Thank you so much again for this honor. There are so many amazing people who work for Habitat. I feel truly blessed!”
We greatly miss seeing Vanessa’s energy and smile each Saturday, but wish her all the best in her endeavors. Vanessa, you touched so many hearts with your beautiful spirit!
